July 12 Winooski River Sewer Break: Swimming, Recreation & Testing

As of 7/28, we have re-opened Lake Access Areas within 1 mile of the sewer break in Burlington and Colchester. Samples were taken at each of the 4 access areas and returned sample results well under the USEPA recreational standard for E. coli testing.

Please ensure you follow all signage and instructions from local and state officials.

  • Pay attention to all signage and instructions from local officials.
  • Check enjoyburlington.com for further information on Burlington's public beaches - which are tested for bacteria regularly.
  • Sign up for VT-Alert at burlingtonvt.gov/btv-alerts.
  • The map below is no longer operative for Burlington; we are leaving it up as a resource. All areas are reopened and sample results came in well under the USEPA recreational standard.
