Burlington Fire Department

Emergency Medical Services

The Burlington Fire Department currently operates three ambulances staffed with Firefighter/EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics. Each truck is assigned two firefighters capable of fire ground operations, rope rescue, advanced life support emergency medicine, tactical medicine, mass-casualty incident care and carries specialized pediatric equipment. The three Burlington Fire ambulances run more than 6,000 emergency 911 calls per year, transporting to a Level 1 Trauma Center located on The University of Vermont Campus.

The closest fire suppression unit is dispatched for immediate care durring a 911 call, as the ambulances may be responding from another district. This tiered response system provides an engine or ladder company on the scene within three minutes and an ambulance on the scene within five minutes. All companies are cabable of emergency medicine and fire suppression.
