East Avenue Traffic Calming

IMPROVING SAFETY & QUALITY OF LIFE

Example of a median/chicane traffic calming featureThe purpose of this project is to lower vehicle speeds on East Avenue. The proposed improvements to East Avenue stem from a traffic calming request from May 2017. Based on measured speeds and crash data, East Avenue qualified for traffic calming treatments per the criteria listed in the 2020 Traffic Calming Manual. The design of this traffic calming project started in 2021 when funds became available.

The goals of the Traffic Calming Program are to:

  • Protect existing residential neighborhoods through traffic and speed management
  • Promote safe, comfortable, multimodal transportation
  • Provide acceptable levels of access, while minimizing unnecessary traffic or excessive speeds.
