Snow Ban Info


Public Works will call Snow Bans by 3PM to allow for the safe, efficient clearing of City streets

Official Notification is through the overhead Parking Lights throughout the City

Snow Bans last from 10PM-7AM, except the downtown zone which is Midnight-6AM (see below for more info on what streets are in the downtown zone)

For residents of Franklin Square: On-street parking will be divided into two winter parking ban zones over two nights.

  • On the night of a citywide snow ban, cars must be removed from existing Zone A which includes the South and West Side of Franklin Square and Red Maple Lane.
  • The night following a citywide snow ban, cars must be removed from Zone H – the North and East Side of Franklin Square. Signage will be posted.

Vehicles left on street may receive a $75 parking ticket and a $75 towing fee by Burlington Parking Services and will be towed to another location in the City.  If towed to the impound for scoff violation, additional fees storage fees will be assessed. Free parking is available in city-owned garages:

  • Starting at 7PM

  • Cars must be removed by 9AM to avoid paying the full daily rate

  • The following city-owned garages offer this free parking:

    • Marketplace Garage (47 S. Winooski: entrances on Cherry St & Bank St),

    • Downtown Garage (formerly called College St Garage (60 College St: entrances on College St and Battery St) &Lakeview Garage (45 Cherry St: entrance on Cherry St))

  • Parking overnight in surface municipal lots (between 2:30AM and 6AM) is prohibited from Dec 1 - March 15, including during snow bans.

Downtown Zone:

By ordinance, Zone F shall include all streets bounded by the following streets:

  • The easternmost boundary shall be defined and include South Willard Street from Pearl Street to Maple Street.

  • The southernmost boundary shall be defined by and include Maple Street from South Willard Street to South Winooski Avenue, South Winooski Avenue from Maple Street to Adams Street, Adams Street from South Winooski Avenue to St. Paul Street, St. Paul Street from Adams Street to Kilburn Street, and Kilburn Street.

  • The westernmost boundary shall be defined by Lake Champlain.

  • The northernmost boundary shall be defined by and include Sherman Street; North Champlain Street from Sherman Street to Peru Street; Peru Street; Elmwood Avenue from Peru Street to Grant Street; Grant Street; North Union Street from Grant Street to Pearl Street; and Pearl Street from South Union Street to South Willard Street.
