Ethan Allen Parkway Traffic Calming

IMPROVING SAFETY & QUALITY OF LIFE

Example of traffic calming on Birchcliff ParkwayIn 2022, DPW recieved a neighborhood request for traffic calming and crosswalk improvements on Ethan Allen Parkway. Based on the City's Traffic Calming Program, DPW collected traffic data in 2023 and reviewed crash history on the street. The existing traffic speeds and crash history qualify Ethan Allen Parkway for a Traffic Calming project. This project is a high priority for DPW based on existing speeds, crash history, and the proximity to CP Smith Elementary School and Ethan Allen Park.

The goals of the Traffic Calming Program are to:

  • Protect existing residential neighborhoods through traffic and speed management
  • Promote safe, comfortable, multimodal transportation
  • Provide acceptable levels of access, while minimizing unnecessary traffic or excessive speeds.
