Is My House Historic?

Burlington is fortunate to have a wealth of buildings and resources that serve to define our city's rich past. They provide an important link to the city's history, and are the foundation of our future as a thriving and authentic northern New England community.

Chances are, if your house is more than 50 years old it may be considered eligible for listing as a historic building. But age is only one part of the analysis. Other factors include the property's historic significance (with regard to historic events or people; architecture, craftsmanship and construction; and, archeology) and finally integrity (of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, and association). All three criteria must be satisfied for a property to actually be considered eligible for listing as "historic."

While many historic properties remain undocumented, there are three categories of properties that have been evaluated for inclusion on the State or National Historic Register of Historic Places:
