Join us for our 8th annual Community Academy!
Our Community Academy meets each Wednesday evening from 6:00pm - 9:00pm starting January 3rd, 2024 through February 7th, 2024 in the Community Room of the Burlington Police Department.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 15, 2023
The Community Academy is a hands-on opportunity to learn about the laws, principles, and procedures that guide the daily activities of the Burlington Police Department. All classes are taught by Burlington Police Department officers and professional staff personnel.
As a Community Academy participant, you will be able to interact with our officers, take part in role-playing scenarios, and participate in discussions. You will learn about the different functions and roles of the police department and how everyone at the BPD trains and works together to provide fair and impartial policing to the Burlington community. Topics will include modern day policing techniques, mental health and drug policy, crime scene investigation, domestic violence, criminal law, use of force, 911 and dispatch procedures, the K-9 Unit, and active shooter response.
Questions and participation are encouraged!
Light refreshments will be provided!
Requirements:
- Participants must be 18 years old or older
- Must reside or work in the City of Burlington
- All participants must complete an application and have no recent misdemeanor or felony convictions
- Be able to participate in a Ride-Along, either during or after the Academy
- Committ to attend class each week for the duration of the Academy
