Social-Service Crisis Team

The City of Burlington seeks an experienced social-service provider to develop a team of clinicians and medical professionals (the Team). The Team will respond to real-time calls for service involving mental-health conditions, substance-use disorder, trauma-related conditions, and other emotional, medical, psychological, or behavioral health needs. In most cases, the Team’s objective will be to respond to active crisis situations and deploy de-escalation techniques grounded in person-centered, trauma-informed approaches, prior to or in lieu of any law-enforcement interaction.  The City of Burlington requests proposals for a social-service model that will respond to crises in a manner separate from, although parallel to and at times coordinated with, law enforcement. The social-service model will work in partnership with a variety of stakeholders, and act under medical direction from the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) through its Emergency Department (ED).
