Effective July 1, 2018 the City Fire Marshal's Office will be issuing Sprikler, Suppression & Fire Alarm Permits out of Fire Station # 2 located at 132 North Ave.

In most all cases a Landuse Permit (Zoning permit) is required before a Building Permit can be issued.  Please contact the Zoning Office directly at (802) 865-7188 for all information specific to the land use permit.  In support of streamlining the permitting processes, instantaneously when working with the Zoning Department it is recommended that you connect with this office for review on the environmental and structural life safety codes and standards connected and keeping your project on schedule.  

City of Burlington Code of Ordinances Chapter 8 section 8-28(a) Fees: Buildlng construction permit fees are based on the estimated cost of the work at the rate of $8.50 per $1,000.00 with a minimum permit fee of thirty ($30.00) dollars.  

Means on getting your permit applications to the City of Burlington Department of Public Works for processing. 
(Please be mindful of the fact that the permit is not a permit until it bears a signature and fees are paid.  Without either, work must not begin.)    

                              => Walk-in & wait:  We keep office hours for issuing permits such as yours between 8-10 AM Monday thru Friday.   It is on a first come first serve basis, quickly turned around where you walk out with your permit once signed and paid for during your visit. 

                             => Walk-in & drop off:  If and when you in the area during the day between 7:30AM - 4:30PM,  please drop off the application.  The application will be processed and a call from Customer Service will be made back to you letting you know that it is complete for you to return, sign and pay the permit fees.  

                            => US Mail, Fax & E-mailing applications:  Same as walk in and drop off directly above; once the application has been received it will be processed and a call from Customer Service will be made back to you letting you know that it is complete for your signature payment on the permit fees.  Please do not mail any money.

Always use the General Email Box address for permit applications due to the fact that the individuals inspectors email addresses and their machines are locked out during their absence.  Customer Service will distribute your application(s) to those professionals of that discipline.   \

Conditions of all construction permits

All work by the applicant shall comply with the codes and ordinances od the city of Burlington.  The permit authorizes the applicant to proceed with the work described above in accordance with these codes.  Permits shall not be construed as authority to violate, cancel or set aside any of the provisions of the codes adopted in the city or State.  The applicant must contact the department to scheduled inspections and obtain final project approval.
