Mayor Miro Weinberger Announces Mayor’s Office Staff Changes
Jennifer Kaulius to Pursue Opportunities Closer to Family;
Katie Vane to Serve as New Communications and Projects Coordinator

Burlington, VT – Mayor Miro Weinberger today announced that Jennifer Kaulius is leaving the Mayor’s Office after serving in City Hall since Weinberger became Mayor more than four years ago and that newspaper journalist and editor Katie Vane will serve as the new Communications and Projects Coordinator in the Mayor’s Office.

“Jen Kaulius has served the people of Burlington in multiple roles with great commitment, warmth, and skill,” said Mayor Weinberger. “I and the entire City team will miss Jen greatly, and we wish her all the best with her future pursuits.”

Kaulius, whose final day on the City team is today, plans to pursue new opportunities closer to her family in Pennsylvania. Kaulius interned on the Mayor’s first campaign prior to her 2012 University of Vermont graduation and served as campaign manager for the Mayor’s 2015 re-election effort. She has worked for the past year as the Mayor’s Communications and Projects Coordinator, and she served as the Mayor’s scheduler and administrative assistant for three years prior.

“As I move forward from this amazing first chapter of my professional career, I do so with tremendous gratitude that Mayor Weinberger provided me with the opportunity to serve the passionate people of Burlington,” reflected Kaulius. “I am fortunate to have had such a meaningful experience, and I will be forever grateful for my incredibly dedicated City colleagues and this thoughtful community.

A national search that produced dozens of applications in response to the posting of the Communications and Projects Coordinator position led to the hiring of Katie Vane. Vane came to the City of Burlington from Mammoth Lakes, CA, where she worked for the past five years as a reporter and editor with The Sheet, a free weekly newspaper with a circulation of approximately 6,000. At The Sheet, Vane covered local politics and government operations, attending town, county, and other public meetings, researching and writing several stories each week, assigning stories to co-workers, assembling the weekly newspaper, and special publications. Vane grew up in Los Angeles, studied English at Vassar College, and earned an MFA in creative writing from Hunter College, of the City University of New York. Vane began her work in the Mayor’s Office earlier this week.

“We are excited to have Katie join our City team and have full confidence that she will uphold the Administration’s commitment and track record of being responsive and transparent in communicating with both the media and the public,” said Mayor Weinberger. “Katie is a skilled writer, has deep experience working on deadline, and brings the perspective of a journalist to our team.”

“I am thrilled and honored to work for the City of Burlington,” said Vane. “I look forward to serving the Burlington community, a community that is close-knit, engaged, and uniquely dedicated to a range of important social and environmental issues.”
