New North End Projects Update

Dear Neighbors in the New North End,

The City has started implementing the second year of its ambitious Sustainable Infrastructure Plan - to reinvest in the core infrastructure that connects us. We have also pivoted this construction season to address the winter deterioration of some of our major roadways -- including North Avenue. Thanks to the voter approved capital bonds in 2016 we have expanded our ability to tackle aging infrastructure. While we will be paving over 6 miles of streets - which is well above the past annual average of 2.5-3 miles, we will also be reconstructing over 3 miles of sidewalks (triple the pre-2017 average) and rehabilitating over 3 miles of drinking water infrastructure (in the past, we were only able to react after pipes broke). We have also expanded our investment in wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, critical elements of a healthy and sustainable city.

PAVING
Recently and nearby, we repaved a portion of Plattsburg Avenue. In June we will be repaving over a mile of North Avenue, from Lakeview Cemetery to Ethan Allen Parkway. We will do extensive linear patching on another 0.77 mi of North Ave, including Strong to Crowley and Ethan Allen Parkway to Shore Road. Nearby property owners will soon be receiving letters in the mail advising them of these details. Traffic flow will be maintained with flaggers and traffic control signage. Please be aware of the changes in the traffic pattern and always use caution. We expect these paving projects to last approximately 3 weeks, weather dependent. For more information on paving, please contact customer service at 802-863-9094 or email

ETHAN ALLEN PARKWAY WATER WORK
In middle June, and planned in conjunction with school recess, the rest of the water main on Ethan Allen Parkway (from North Ave to Lopes Ave) will be replaced. This project will increase the reliability and capacity of the water distribution system and reduce the chance of water main breaks while increasing fire flow capability. There may be scheduled, periodic and short disruptions of water service over the duration of the project. You will receive advance notification approximately 24-48 hours beforehand if you live in the impacted area. You can read more information on this project here: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/DPW/Water-Main-Replacement-Project. The letter property owners receive will eventually be posted on this site. If you have any concerns regarding water service or quality, you can contact us 24/7 at 802-863-4501 or water-resources@burlingtonvt.gov

SIDEWALKS
We will soon be going before the City Council for their consideration and approval of our Request for Proposals for a sidewalk contractor to reconstruct approximately 3 miles of sidewalk, including in the New North End. For more information on which segments are planned, please visit burlingtonvt.gov/construction.

If you have any questions or concerns with our ongoing or upcoming work, please contact Robert Goulding, Public Information Manager, at 802-540-0846 or RGoulding@burlingtonvt.gov.
