An invitation to comment on the draft planBTV Walk Bike
Burlington, VT, August 23, 2016– The Department of Public Works is pleased to announce that Burlington’s first comprehensive plan for walking and biking is now available for public comment. This plan has an ambitious goal: to make Burlington the best small city for walking and biking on the East Coast.
PlanBTV Walk Bike defines strategies and priorities for the community’s investments in walk/bike improvements. This is a road map to rapidly transform Burlington into a place where walking and biking are viable, and enjoyable, transportation options for people of all ages and abilities, all year round.
“Great Twenty First Century cities have outstanding walking and biking infrastructure,” said Mayor Miro Weinberger. “PlanBTV Walk Bike will help Burlington achieve that. By creating more opportunities for Burlingtonians to safely walk and bike, we will be benefiting our health, the environment, and the economic development of our great city.”
“We are very encouraged by the vision for walking and biking that is laid out in this plan, and the commitment from the Weinberger administration to building a connected network of sidewalks and bike facilities,” said Emily Boedecker, Executive Director of Local Motion, Vermont’s advocate for biking and walking. “For everyone who lives in, commutes to or visits Burlington, we urge you to review the plan and provide feedback on whether this will allow you and your family to walk and bike in comfort wherever you need to go.”
The community is invited to review planBTV Walk Bike and submit comments through September 23, 2016. There will be additional opportunities for public input as Burlington’s Public Works Commission, Planning Commission, and City Council review and adopt this plan, but the community’s support and constructive criticisms are appreciated at this stage.
