The Rules

Yes, we are all bound by rules and regulations and the 'City Green Employee Bikeshare' is no different.  So, heres the brief:

  • For employee use only.  Please don't loan it out to your brother in-law so he can go to a job interview in Colchester...
  • For work time use only.  Please don't take the bike home.  Others may have it booked out bright and early in the morning and be relying on it and would be upset if you pulled a sickie with the bike still at your place.  Also, your place is likely not as secure as a City building.
  • Use the helmet.  Helmet use is mandatory.  That's why we provide one.  Your brain is not replacable, even with workers comp.  If your helmet is more comfortable and you want to bring it in to use, that's cool.
  • Return it to the same location you picked it up from.  We all appreciate being home, and the bike will too.  That way it is available for the next lucky employee.
  • Must be booked online BEFORE use.  That way people know the bike is there if they want to book, we know who has it if its late and we can use the number of bookings to track how much use a bike has had for maintenance and location data.  If you don't have access to a computer, get your department administrave assistant to book it for you.
  • Be respectful of the equipment.  No showing off to that new intern by doing jumps.
  • Obey the rules of the road.  Don't give motorists an excuse to bad mouth cyclists for not 'playing by the same rules as them'.
  • Use the lock.  That's why we put it in the pannier bag.  Use it.  It's a pain when we have to do insurance claims on replacing company vehicles, when a 10 second locking could have prevented it.
  • If you break something, that's totally OK, just make sure you tell someone so that the next person to use the bike isn't inconvenienced.
  • HAVE FUN!  It's a bike, and bikes are way more fun than cars!
