How do I Prepare for the Fair?

Do Your Research

Learn more about employment with the City of Burlington and check out the current job opportunities in advance of the event.  Applying in advance is highly encouraged! We will also have applications available on computers and paper.

Update Your Resume

A resume is a type of advertisement. Cover the basics: your education, work experience, leadership/extracurricular experience, and skills that are pertinent to the career opportunities you are applying for.

Practice Your Pitch

When it comes time to meet with a recruiter/representative of the City, how will you introduce yourself? Be ready to answer questions like: Why are you interested in the company? What types of positions are you seeking? How is your previous work experience relevant?  Also, think about what questions you plan on asking the representatives.  Practicing ahead will help you be more comfortable and confident.

Dress to Impress

First impressions are important! A general guideline is to dress for the job you are applying for or business to business casual.

Are You a Student at a High School, College, University, or Technical Center?

Be sure to connect with your school's Career Center/Services and school counselors, career coaches, mentors, and internship coordinators.  They have valuable perspective and guidance to support you in your career journey.

Where Can I Park for the Event?
