Starting May 1 all property owners in Burlington are required to purchase and use a covered recycling cart from DPW. This does not apply to those who wish to self-haul their recycling. You can order your cart today – online or over the phone. These are discounted and delivered by DPW. You can find more information and the application for the covered cart here: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/DPW/Recycling/toter-changes.

When selecting a size, you should consider ordering the largest that your space can fit. Starting May 1, we will no longer be able to pick up recycling left outside of your covered bin. Recycling left outside of pre-approved covered carts may be subject to a fine starting on May 1.

If you are a renter, your landlord is responsible for providing one cart per 3 units (or less).

If you would like to have a conversation, DPW can provide an interpreter if you call 802-863-9094 x3 during business hours and identify the language you want to have a conversation in.

Important things to remember about recycling:

  • Recycling must be out by 7AM on your day of pickup.
  • We do not pick up recycling on Memorial Day, Independence Day (or observed), Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas (or observed)
