Pine Street Repairs and Travel Details

10/26

Pine Street is reopened to two way travel.

10/25 @ 2:30PM:

Water Restoration Update:

Water has been restored to nearly all customers at this time. Due to the age of the main, it utilized non-standard couplings extending the time to complete the repair. Please flush your cold taps until your water is clear. Contact 802-863-4501 for any urgent water questions.

Detour Update:

Once the water main repair is complete, street restoration will begin. At this time, Pine St between Birchcliff and Lakeside is expected to remain closed into the evening hours.

  • Before 8PM: Vehicles on Tuesday should continue to avoid Pine Street if possible and should detour at Locust Street or Flynn Avenue on to Shelburne Road.
  • Local Detour Before 8PM: Via Lakeside Avenue through the large surface parking adjacent to the Champlain Parkway construction site and onto Sears Lane.
  • After 8PM: The Shelburne St Roundabout is scheduled for closure during the overnight hours so all motorists should plan on using the current "local traffic" detour for Pine St: via Lakeside Avenue through the large surface parking adjacent to the Champlain Parkway construction site and onto Sears Lane.  Please use caution and drive slowly on the Lakeside Ave/Sears Ln detour. Please follow all on street detour signage.

Gas Update: Follow details at vermontgas.com or by calling 802-863-4511.

###

10/25 @ 7:25AM:

After Pine Street water main work was halted to attend to a gas line break Monday evening, DPW water crews resumed work around 10:30pm last night and have worked through the night to repair the over 100-year-old water main. The extended service impact also includes customers on Birchcliff from Cherry to Pine, and on Pine from Birchcliff to Lakeside, both sides of the street. We anticipate water service being restored within 3-4 hours (posted at 7:30AM).

For job efficiency and worker safety, Pine Street between Lakeside Ave and Birchcliff Pkwy will remain closed to all but local traffic Tuesday morning until the excavation can be fully backfilled and traffic restored.

TRAFFIC:
Vehicles on Tuesday morning should avoid Pine Street if possible and should detour at Locust Street or Flynn Avenue on to Shelburne Road.  A "local traffic" detour will likely be available via Lakeside Avenue through the large surface parking on adjacent to the Champlain Parkway construction site and onto Sears.  Please use caution and drive slowly on the Lakeside Ave/Sears Ln detour.

OTHER WORK:
Additionally, Vermont Gas will be onsite Tuesday morning to fully replace a damaged gas service. Customers may still be without gas service and they are working to restore your service.

10/24 @ 7PM:

Pine Street between Birchcliff Parkway and Lakeside Avenue is closed to thru traffic to allow for the emergency repair of a gas line followed by a water main repair.

Timing & Detour Info: This section of Pine Street will be closed most of this evening and likely into the overnight hours. Please plan alternate routes during this time and prepare for the possibility that this may affect early morning commutes. Sears Lane to Lakeside will be temporarily re-opened until approximately 7AM to accommodate Pine St detour traffic. Nearby residents may experience increased noise and adjacent construction activity.

In the course of an emergency repair of a 103 year old water main, a Vermont Gas Line was struck. Both lines will be repaired during the temporary road closure. There are only a limited number of impacted water customers. However, if you have any urgent water questions, please call 802-863-4501. Please contact Vermont Gas at 802-863-4511 for any questions related to gas service or emergency gas issues.

We thank you for your patience.
