Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG)

The discharge of Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG) into a sewer lateral, main or catch basin can cause severe and costly blockages, as well as overflows into properties.  It is critical that residents and business owners have an appropriate grease management plan to maintain the health of our wastewater collection system.  This should  include a Best Management Practice (BMP) for dealing with FOG discharge, along with a grease interceptor and/or trap, regular cleaning and care of  installed devices and maintenance of your private sanitary sewer lateral.

The pictures below were taken during a blockage event on Riverside Avenue in December 2019.  They illustrate grease in a manhole and then after the solids had been extracted.

The video stills below were taken during routine maintenance and cleaning of sewer mains.  The solidified fats, oils and grease are clearly visible and are restricting normal flows.
