Peddler Licensing

PEDDLER'S APPLICATION 
Please read through the following procedure before submitting application

Peddler License Application 

All peddlers are licensed from June 1st through May 31st of each year 

 All applicants, including renewals, are required to submit the following with their application:
    
    1. Background check consent form with $45.00 per person fee
    2. Certificate of Liability Insurance (example attached) (Peddlers need at least $100,000 public liability and $25,000 for property damage)
    3. Business I.D. number from Secretary of State (all peddlers must register their business with VT Secretary of State)
    4. If selling food, Vermont Department of Health Certificate
    5. If selling food, Burlington Gross Receipts form (see attached) 
    6. Pictures of applicant(s) and cart, stand or vehicle
    7. Fees for each license:
        
    General District - $100/year* 
    -All locations throughout the city except: Church Street Marketplace District, Central Peddling District, and any City park or within twenty (20) feet of the boundary of any City park unless authorized by the Parks & Recreation Commission
        
    Central District - $300/year* ***PLEASE NOTE*** The Central District is currently closed to new applicants pending review by the License Committee
    -Includes the area bounded by, and including both sides of Main Street, Battery Street, Pearl Street and South Union Street except within the Church Street Marketplace District and within City Hall Park and sidewalks adjacent thereto. The Central license also permits operation in the General district
        
University Place - $100/year and $300/vehicle endorsement 
   -The number of licenses that may be issued for University Place is limited to seven (7) spaces.  Those spaces shall be marked and signed for use by peddlers from the hours of 7am to 7pm.  
    A waiting list is kept for University Place. When a spot is vacated, it is first offered to other University Place peddlers and then it is offered to the first person on the waiting list.  Please inquire about being placed on waiting list.  

    University Peddlers Only (in addition to the above required information)
    -A One Hundred Dollar ($100.00) deposit which will be refunded upon termination of license and inspection of spot check for grease on sidewalk
    -Agreement form is issued when you reach the top of the wait list and your license is issued.
    
*Monthly rates are available for General District ($15/month) and Central District ($60/month). Please specify if you are applying for a month to month license or an annual license. 

Please allow 1-2 weeks for your background check to be completed.  It is highly recommended that you submit your background check and payment as soon as possible when you are applying for your Peddler License.

If the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office does not receive all forms/fees required to re-new your license before June 1st, you will no longer be licensed to sell in the City of Burlington after that date and your spot may be re-assigned to another peddler.
