North Avenue Project Data

The DPW and the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) have been collecting and compiling data related to the North Avenue Pilot Project. Data is currently located in several different locations but this web page is working to centralize all data related to the project.

This website is a work-in-progress as of September 20, 2016. Thank you for your patience as we centralize this information for your reference. If you need information more immediately, please email northavepilot@burlingtonvt.gov

Crashes

The Vermont Agency of Transportation identified several sections of North Avenue as high crash locations (HCL). These are identfied based on the number of crashes and not the severity of crashes. More information on the State's High Crash Reports is available on their website: http://vtrans.vermont.gov/docs/highway-research

Throughout the North Avenue Corridor Study and as the pilot project was developed, crash reports from VTrans were referenced as they related to the HCL reports. Those crash locations and types can be queried at http://apps.vtrans.vermont.gov/CrashPublicQueryTool/. Not all BPD reported crashes will appear on the VTrans database. Minor crashes are not included. As the pilot project was developed, the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) provided analysis of the crash reports provided by VTrans.

For the North Avenue Pilot Project, the Burlington Police Department analyzed all traffic-related crash incidents within the project area. Any calls for private parking lots or adjacent streets were removed.

Travel Times, Volumes, and Speeds

The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) has collected before and after data related to the North Avenue pilot project. This includes travel times to traverse the 4-lane section of North Avenue, wait times for vehicles entering North Avenue from side streets, motor vehicle volumes and speeds, and volumes of bicycles and pedestrians on the corridor. Some data times time to be processed and posted online, but local and regional traffic data is available at http://www.ccrpcvt.org/our-work/transportation/data/
