Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to help.
Help remove graffiti
Volunteer to make our city a more beautiful place by removing graffiti on signs and buildings. A team cleans every Tuesday throughout the summer. To participate, contact Nicole Beaudoin at (802) 865-7548 or nbeaudoin@burlingtonvt.gov
Meet with responsible parties
Restorative Justice panels bring together victims, offenders and community members to discuss the impact of a crime and find ways to make amends to all parties. We are seeking community volunteers to join this roundtable discussion. At the meeting, all parties will discuss the impact of the crime and collectively create a meaningful, legally binding contract to help “right the wrong.” Weekly panel meetings are held: Tuesdays 9:30 - 11:30 am, 1:30 - 3:30 pm and 5:30-7:30 pm, Wednesdays 9:30 - 11:30 am and 5:30 - 7:30 pm, Thursdays 9:30 -11:30 am. For more information, contact Jocelyn Dubuque at (802) 865-7589 or jdubuque@burlingtonvt.gov
Support victims as a Victim Advocate / Victim Liaison
Volunteers offer support to victims of crime in two ways. Immediately after a crime, Parallel Justice Advocates contact victims to see what their needs are and offer support and assistance. When a perpetrator is caught, often they come through the restorative justice panel process. In that event, a Victim Liaison contacts those affected by the crime to ensure their voice is heard at the meeting, if they want it to be. To learn more, contact Clark Sheldon at (802) 540-2394 or csheldon@bpdvt.org
Donate goods or services for victims of crime
Parallel Justice for Victims of Crime is always grateful for donated services (massage, house cleaning, automotive repair, etc...) or items to give to victims of crime such as laptops or iPods to replace stolen goods. Contact Clark Sheldon at (802) 540-2394 or csheldon@bpdvt.org to find out more.
