NEW! 2013 DRAFT Climate Action Plan - Available for review!
**PUBLIC HEARING MAY 6, 2013 - The City Council will hold the second public hearing on the 2013 Climate Action Plan at 7:30pm on Monday May 6, 2013, in Contois Auditorium, City Hall.
Burlington has a long history of climate change planning, beginning in 1996 when Burlington became one of the first cities to join the “Cities for Climate Protection” campaign. This led to a 1998 City Council resolution to reduce our emissions to 10% below 1990 levels and the creation the first climate action plan. Burlington conducted its first greenhouse gas inventory in 2008, which was accompanied by a community process that researched and brainstormed action items to reduce the City’s climate footprint. Over 200 recommendations resulted. These strategies were then sorted and filtered, analyzed, and prioritized, forming the basis of the climate action plan update.
On this site you will find information on climate action plans, what you can do, information on climate change, including the science, impacts, and adaptation measures, Burlington’s plan for the future, Burlington’s action step, and partnerships and resources.
